Whether your goal is to compete on the international stage, or simply to develop the skills required for participation in cross-country skiing – a “sport for life” – we have the program for you.

Our programs are developed by Cross Country Canada and delivered through our Provincial Sport Organization; Cross Country Ontario.  Our racing programs follow the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Model, which integrates health and education with sport and physical activity.  It encourages all individuals to be involved in lifelong physical activity and articulates the need for all, particularly those that have the capacity and interest to become elite athletes, to be given a solid foundation in physical, technical, tactical and mental capacities upon which to build their performance abilities. Whether you’re new to racing, or are looking to climb the national ranks, Walden will help get you there.

The Youth Racers Program is intended for skiers aged 13 and up who want to challenge themselves and learn to compete in a supportive team environment. The goal of this program is to engage athletes in a fun and healthy atmosphere while training and participating in races suited to their personal objectives and abilities.

Our program coincides with the “Train to Train” and “Learn to Compete” stages of the Cross Country Canada Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Model. Under the guidance of the program’s Head Coach, Youth Racers focus on improving technical skills, aerobic capacity, speed, strength, and race tactics.

Youth Racers train together 3-4 times a week during the fall and 4-5 times a week in the winter.  Each athlete receives personalized training plans developed to meet their specific training and racing goals.  Athletes will be supported at provincial and national races.  The team will also have the opportunity to participate in training camps.

Youth Racers are strongly encouraged to participate in high school skiing and XC running alongside the Youth Racers program. Our Head Coach will maintain open communication with Youth Racers throughout the season to ensure a balanced training plan is maintained.
